About Winnipeg Harvest

Winnipeg Harvest is a non-profit, community-based organization. We collect and share surplus food with people who are hungry. Our ultimate goal is toeliminate the need for food banks in our community.

Winnipeg Harvest was founded in 1984 by Lee Newton, and the warehouse opened its doors in 1985. Currently, Harvest distributes food to over 57,000 people each month.

Winnipeg Harvest is a founding member of Food Banks Canada, and is a member of the Manitoba Association of Food Banks. Last year Winnipeg Harvest distributed over 11 million pounds of food to over 320 Member Agencies across Manitoba, including food banks, soup kitchens, youth programs and drop-in-centres.

Our Mission Statement

Winnipeg Harvest is a non-profit, community-based organization. We are committed to providing food to people who struggle to feed themselves and their families. We are also committed to maximizing public awareness of hunger while working towards long-term solutions to hunger and poverty.

Supporting Beliefs:

We believe every single person in every neighbourhood offers strengths, capacities, abilities and gifts. Hunger and poverty diminish a person's capacity to be effective in their family, neighbourhood and society.

Collecting and using surplus food is in itself a worthwhile activity.
People from every walk of life are necessary to fulfill our mission.
Governments have the legal and moral responsibility to ensure all Manitobans have adequate necessities.
This should include nutritionally adequate and culturally appropriate food.
Solutions to poverty will only be found once people living in poverty are invited to the table.
We should work with the community to seek solutions to the causes of hunger.
We have a responsibility to be leaders in combating poverty in Manitoba and in Canada.

Oct. 14: Winnipeg Zombie Walk @ Stephen Juba Park, 7pm-10pm. Bring a Tin for the Bin!
Oct. 14-16: International Wine Festival of Manitoba @ The Forks Market. Free admission, $0.50 per sample. Proceeds to Winnipeg Harvest
Oct. 22: Winnipeg Blue Bombers - Bring a Tin for the Bin!
Oct. 28: Winnipeg Blue Bombers - Bring a Tin for the Bin!
McGavin's Bread Basket: Add $1.50 to your bill to purchase a fresh loaf of bread for Winnipeg Harvest.
